PBC is a gold-coloured compound containing metal and high-performance solid lubricants. According to its formulation, it is free from silicone and lead. It is suitable as a non-melting extreme-pressure lubricant for slow-moving surfaces and as a grease at temperatures of up to 150 °C. Above this temperature, the carrier oil gradually evaporates, forming a dry lubricating film that is effective up to 1,200 °C. During this process, special oxide products become effective as release agents.

PBC reduces friction coefficients and acts as an anti-seize agent for bolts and preloaded threaded components. It is also a protective grease that forms a lubricating barrier to prevent the ingress of water and corrosive solutions. PBC can also be used as a sealant and on the mating faces of covers and gaskets. It may act as an anti-corrosion agent in plain and roller bearings subject to vibration and oscillating or minor adjusting movements.
