PBC/D is a soft, grey paste containing metal and formulated without silicone or lead. As a non-melting EP lubricant, it is suitable for slow-moving surfaces at temperatures up to 150 °C. Above this temperature and up to 1,200 °C, the carrier oil slowly evaporates and special oxides form, effectively preventing seizure of the contact surfaces.

As a protective grease, PBC/D acts as a lubricating barrier against the ingress of water and corrosive solutions. It can also be used as a jointing compound and anti-squeak medium. Applications include variable-pitch blade fans, kingpin thrust bearings on heavy trucks and universal joints. PBC/D acts as an anti-friction agent between contact surfaces with oscillating movements.
